Dear Yogi friend,
This morning I had my morning practice, a few asana’s and meditation.
After that I had my breakfast; whole grain rice with roasted sunflower seeds, Tamari and a sniff of salt.. Actually this has been my diet for the last 2
days.. I’ll be eating just this for 10 days..
You might say: What? No 2 pieces of fruit? No 2 ounces of vegetables? Are you mad Ben? What kind of diet is that? Where are your vitamins, your variety in food? I’ll dive into that later but for now I’ll tell you a bit more about the diet itself..
Oshawa no. 7
This diet is called Oshawa no. 7, based on the ideology of Macrobiotics developed by George Oshawa. It’s purpose is to cleanse and purify. It is said that this diet consists of solely Yang food and and it will bring the Yin in balance with the Yang.
Now, the term Yin and Yang is highly abused and one can get easily lost in what the meaning could or should be..
Know how to listen to your body
With many of the theories concerning food in this world like Ayurveda, RAW food or whatever, it is very important to go beyond concepts or ideas but that you actually listen to your body and work from there.
Then you will know what is good for you by experience and not by intellectual reasoning.
However, keep in mind this does not mean that unease or discomfort is bad, these experiences often come with a purification process.
For instance with the diet I am following now one can easily feel like giving up. The first 1,5 day I experienced restlessness, tiredness, muscle ache and a slight headache. I had a strong longing for other foods which I probably will have the following days.
Had I given up because of the unease or desire I would not have experienced the benefits I am experiencing now:
- Improved smell
- Improved taste
- More concentration
- More calmness
Okey, so you are feeling great Ben… Good for you! But what about vitamins and a balanced diet? You are way short on them now..
Yoga and nutrition
First I’d like to say, I do this diet for just 10 days.. The human body in so strong, people abuse their bodies for 40 or 50 years through diet and behavior and still they can recover.. So I am not worried there.
Secondly, in Yoga it is said that a strong body creates the vitamins and elements it needs by itself. Sounds unbelievable right? I agree it does, when I heard this theory for the first time I thought it was bullocks.
However, I was with Wim Hof the Iceman at the Radboud University for an experiment where he did his breathing exercises. The professor told us he did not understand how but lab results showed that, after the experiment Wim Hof had more iron in his blood than before. Where did that iron come from?
Thirdly, there is the phenomenon of breatharians, people that are able to live of thin air. That’s right they don’t have to eat.. How is that possible?
There is a couple that had a baby while living on prana, they are Akahi and Camilla.
Food contains a certain energy that is called Prana, Prana is also in air, in sunlight and in…Everything.. Just mentioning..
There is more than meets the eye
There is so much more to this life than meets the eye.. Things the mind can not understand simply due to believe systems..
This is why it is so important to experiment, to be open to new things. Once you have had the experience you have to admit that things are not always what they appear to be..
On the other hand, there is so much bullshit out there.. People are exploited that long for spirituality, purpose or meaning in life that you need to be critical and be honest and true to your experiences..
Are you ready for new experiences? Are you believing things that you have not really experienced yourself?
